Monday Club offers Afternoon Delights
The theatre now offers a programme of monthly Monday afternoon events aimed at those people with leisure time to spend, looking for an alternative to evening shows.
Membership is just £5 and open to anybody. Events range from brass band concerts, fascinating speakers, musical theatre and Game Shows. Members can attend all afternoon events for just £2.50 and receive special offers on ticket prices for evening events.
The idea of the Monday Club came from volunteer and theatre stalwart, Terry Barber from Blackburn who celebrates '50 Golden Year' in local showbusiness in 2008 - along with the same number of happy years of marriage to Val.
Theatre regular, Julie Hopkinson from Rishton joined in October at the launch event which attracted over 100 people to listen to speaker and author, Vera Waters. 'I can heartily recommend membership to people of any age with time to spend in the daytime. There's a good range of shows and the membership offers such great value'

Your Theatre Needs YOU!
One of the most common pieces of feedback we receive as a venue is praise for the marvellous atmosphere that audience sense when they spend an evening at the Thwaites Empire Theatre. We can only put that down to the hard work, passion and enthusiasm of our team of volunteers.
It is often a surprise to new visitors to learn that such a busy theatre is staffed entirely by volunteers. Everybody you meet, from the team in the booking office, to the bar staff, lighting and sound crew and front of house stewards is unpaid. Many of the people you will meet were part of the original team of visionaries and rightly have a sense of ownership and pride in being able to have built such a marvellous community venue.
Without their dedication and the hours of work they put in we wouldn't have the beautiful building we have today, which exists to provide accessible entertainment for all members of the local community to watch and take part in.
Our team come from a wide range of backgrounds but in the main are retired local people with energy, passion for theatre and leisure time on their hands.
In order to continue to thrive and develop we are now actively seeking new members of our team who can spare a few hours a week to help in the following areas:
Booking Office: To work a maximum of 3 hours a week to book tickets over the telephone and in person using a computerised booking system. Full training given.
Cleaning Staff: Once a month the volunteers get together on a Saturday morning and do the jobs needed to keep the theatre in it's immaculate state: hoovering, polishing brasses, sweeping, mopping, cleaning and emptying the bins.
Unfortunately we can't afford to pay expenses but we do reward our volunteers with free tickets for our events. If you're looking for a new hobby, a chance to put something back into the community, or a way of meeting new friends - we'd love to talk to you.
